The Blakes Vancouver Corporate Services Department consists of five corporate paralegals and clerks and has responsibility for over 1900 companies and other business entities.  We are currently recruiting for a full-time Manager, Corporate Services.

 

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
 

This position requires a combination of paralegal or legal skills and management skills.  Major responsibilities of the Manager include:

  • assisting lawyers with corporate transactions, including acquisitions, amalgamations, plans of arrangements, reorganizations, equity financings and formation of business entities, including limited partnerships
  • supervising corporate services personnel and, where appropriate, assigning tasks and reviewing work product
  • recruiting, training and evaluating corporate services personnel
  • preparing, reviewing and updating corporate precedents
  • liaising with other Blakes offices regarding various corporate services matters
  • attending to other administrative matters related to the corporate services department
 

Qualifications:
 

A candidate for this position would have the following background and possess the following skills and experience:

  • a graduate of a recognized law school, paralegal program or equivalency
  • a minimum of 8-10 years paralegal experience with the more recent experience working as a senior corporate paralegal, manager of a corporate services department or 5 years of relevant post-call lawyer experience
  • a comprehensive understanding of company law, including applicable statutes, and routine corporate transactions, incorporations, corporate registrations, annual matters
  • a good working knowledge of the “ALF” system and proficient in MS Word and Outlook
  • strong leadership, analytical and problem solving abilities
  • strong drafting skills and written and oral communication skills
  • strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
  • detail oriented, with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
