Members are individual full-time employees engaged in the management of legal organizations.

The manager will normally direct and supervise the activities of others, or may be a functional specialist not responsible for the activities of others but who has influence over them, directly or indirectly.

There are two categories of BCLMA members: Full Members and Sub-section Members.

Each member firm must have at least one Full Member in order to have other managers hold BCLMA Sub-section memberships. Full membership is limited to the person who is responsible for the day to day management and administration function of the firm.

"Full Member ”, regardless of the person’s actual title, is defined as the person who is either:

1. The principal administrator in the organization;
2. The manager of a branch office of the organization; or
3. One who reports directly to the principal administrator or branch administrator and has responsibility for one or more of the organization’s major functional management or administrative areas.
   

• Participation in the governance of BCLMA
• Participation in the Education Events hosted by BCLMA throughout the year*
• Participation in Managing Partners' Dinner*
• Evening networking/social events (two per year)*
• Participation in all BCLMA Sub-section meetings (see list below)*
• Access to the "Members Section" of the BCLMA website (www.bclma.org)
• Surveys on staff compensation, firm profitability and other areas of interest*
• TOPICS e-newsletter published quarterly
• Extensive networking opportunities with other legal administrators
• Participation in committees to set the future direction of legal administration
• Access to new developments in legal administration
  

* There may be a cost associated with these events that is not included in the membership fee.

Full BCLMA membership fee for 2008 is $450.00 (plus GST). Members from outside Metro Vancouver pay a reduced fee of $175.00 (plus GST). A firm new to BCLMA may join the association for a one time introductory rate of $299 (plus GST).

Note: Full members who do not wish to participate in all eight sub-sections must indicate on the application form the sub-sections they wish to receive communications from.

Each Sub-section membership fee is $150 (plus GST) within Metro Vancouver, and $50 (plus GST) outside Metro Vancouver.

There is a $75 fee (plus GST) for each additional Sub-section membership beyond the initial fee at $150 (plus GST).

1. Providing that there is at least one Full Member in the firm, any number of qualified legal managers/supervisors (functional specialists) can become Sub-section Members.
2. Membership in the Human Resources Sub-section is only open to Administrators and others in the firm who deal with confidential personnel information.
3. Memberships are transferable within a firm. For example, if a member leaves his/her firm, their replacement assumes the BCLMA membership.
4. New members joining BCLMA during the year will be charged a pro-rated fee based on the number of months remaining in the calendar year. Prior to joining please contact Jane Kennedy, BCLMA Administrator, to confirm payment amount.
5. BCLMA Board of Directors reserves the right to refuse membership applications. The board may at any time request a description of an applicant’s duties in their current position or request a copy of their current job description.
6. BCLMA does not sell, trade or disclose any personal or membership information to third parties except where that party is a sponsor of the Association or its events and programs.
